Ruth-Anne Siegel grew up on Long Island and knew from a very young age that she wanted to be an artist. Her family encouraged her artistic interests by frequently visiting the various museums and galleries in New York City. Pursuing her interest in art she attended the Rhode Island School of Design and received a BFA.
She spent 15 years working as a graphic designer in New York City and then in the San Francisco Bay area. During this period she won several design awards. Feeling a need to do artwork in a more expressive medium than graphic design, she began painting with watercolors and creating compositions through collage. Ruth-Anne had used watercolors before, but a class on wet-on-wet watercolors gave her the catalyst start painting regularly. She loves the spontaneity of the medium and its immediacy. Collage marries the facets of her art by combining an approach consistent with design and a loose painting technique.
Her watercolor paintings are rich in color and lushly saturated. Since moving to California, she has been awed by its natural beauty and incredible weather. Living in such a beautiful area provides rich material for her imagination.
Ruth-Anne has exhibited her work in the Palo Alto area and her work resides in collections throughout the United States and Israel. She currently lives in Palo Alto with her three children
and husband, Evan.
