Biography





Originally from Florida, John moved to Honolulu in 1974. He worked as an artist for the advertising industry until 1987 when he decided to become an editorial cartoonist. In 1988, he interned with world-renowned cartoonist and caricaturist, Ranan Lurie, in New York. Back in Hawaii, Pritchett found a home at Honolulu Weekly where he has published a weekly editorial cartoon for the past eight years.

Pritchett has won nine awards for editorial cartooning and illustration from the Hawaii Publishers Association including three first place honors. He has also received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Common Cause Hawaii, and Small Business Hawaii.

On Maui, his cartoons are published weekly in The Lahaina News. Nationally, his work has been published in newspapers around the country including The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Seattle Times and others.
