My style of work is related mainly to speed and looking on the lighter side of life. I love nothing more than to crack out the markers, and black pens and whip out a spontaneous pen and ink. Something about doing things FAST that preserves the life in an inked drawing. I then proceed to shade very quickly. Its all about keeping things fresh and lively. My color is then added digitally in Photoshop or the image is brought into Illustrator to add spot colors. When I work strictly digitally, it's all about style.
I've had a lifelong love affair with bad science fiction, early animated cartoons, comics from the pulp era and character trademarks. Whacky, weird gadgets with a million parts have always been a fascination of mine along with spaceships, aliens from the 50's and things that come alive when you don't expect them too. It's only natural that I want to stick this into advertising, editorial and design work whenever I get a chance.
I have 35 years experience doing this stuff. The type of client that will usually come to me is someone that is in need of something coming from left field. It also takes someone with more guts than brains to hang it all out there with their product and understand the buying power of a humorous approach to their product. If you have a product or service that is usually considered “boring” by the uneducated masses, let me add the power of laughter to help you cut through the clutter of all those same, same ads and messages that they are getting from your competition. (If you just need a teensy, weensy bit of humor I can do that too!) and you will get it pretty darn fast!
An art director from O'Reilly Publications described me as the fastest illustrator she had ever worked with. I was also fired from my first job at an ad agency for being “too creative”. So if there's anything you need, drop me a line, call me, send me an e-mail, disguise yourself as a Nigerian diplomat! (if you are a REAL Nigerian diplomat, please accept my apologies...)
