Fine Artist and designer / illustrator Lucille Rella received a degree in design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Since then she has continued her quest for
excellence with such distinguished teachers as
Robert E. Wood, Jade Fon, George Post, Alex Powers, Morris Shubin, John Salminen, Frank Webb and Charles Becker. These mentors and specialists have had a profound influence on Rella's work as an artist. In 1989 she took a sabbatical and traveled to Japan where she immersed herself in a whole new experience, the Oomoto School of Traditional Japanese Arts. At Oomoto, just 15 miles from Kyoto, she began the study of the tea ceremony, calligraphy, Noh drama, aikido and pottery. All this was a "hands on" experience under the watchful eye of master teachers.
Upon returning to the United States, her personal artistic style continued to evolve and she started combining the beautiful watercolor medium with pastel and, at times, conte crayon. Lucille enjoys creating a textural quality in her work along with working from the human form. Drawing is her passion and the human figure is the most consistent inexhaustible inspiration for her creative
expression. The artist portrays not just the curves and sculptural aspect of the female body, but the spiritual qualities of femininity as well. The
composition and color have a mood that is at once familiar and mysterious.
Lucille Rella continues to refine her craft, drawing from live model sessions and developing each individual composition through preliminary sketches, compositional treatments and color
studies. A design major, she enjoys creating a textural quality in her art, enhancing elements of the human form. Always eager to keep her inspiration alive, each year she travels to Asia. Her sketchbook journals are filled with images of these travels, and her art from these journals has been published in Watercolor Magic Artist's
Sketchbook magazine.
She continues to win awards and her most recent accomplishments are First Place for two dimensional work at the Sonoma Fine Art Auction, Third Place
Napa Valley Mustard Festival and Honorable Mention at Salute to the Arts, Sonoma.
