"Art is not necessarily about beauty; it's about expression."

Biography
Joshua Roy was born in Saint-Anselme, Québec, Canada. As a youngster, he developed a fascination and an all-consuming passion for art. In 1988, he moved to Toronto, polished his English, and began to build a successful career in the world of photography. Having gone as far as he wanted to in the commercial arena, Roy has turned his attention to fine art now and works with several different media through which to deliver his thoughts and revelations.

Roy is a true artist in every sense of the word; he lives and breathes to create art. Whether it is with acrylics, ink, pastels, or photography — or a unique combination thereof — he has the extraordinary ability to communicate emotions, a sense of joy, of sadness, of fear…through his art.

For over fifteen years, Roy’s work has been showcased in numerous publications like Photo Life and Photo Magazine to name two…. He has had the opportunity to work with great personalities in the entertainment industry, and was featured in Much Music’s French Kiss. Roy’s work has been shown in well-respected galleries around Ontario and Québec. His work is now part of a compilation of private art collections across North America. “I feel so fortunate” reflects Roy. “There are lots of artists who never get the chance to show their work. I love what I do and the art galleries allow me to share my vision with the public.”

“Expression has always been very important to me,” explains Roy. “That is what keeps me alive, what brings light into my days. I'm always inspired by my surroundings, at work or on the street; there is always something that catches my attention, something that brings me back to the drawing board, canvas, or camera.”

When people are enchanted by the same magic he sees when he created the work, Roy knows he’s been successful. “When people look at a piece of art, each person sees and feels something different and has a different vision of it. Art is about expression, and causing reaction. As much in the viewer as the creator!

By 2006, artist Joshua Roy had donated over 50 pieces of his art to the Canadian Archives (CLGA). Mr. Roy wished to ensure that his work would be archived for posterity. The information is open to the public for educational and research purposes Students, artists, journalists, lawyers, filmmakers working on their respective projects have thus been able to observe evolution of this important artist: Joshua Roy.
