I opened DLHG Photography in 2001 (the DLHG being my initials), with shooting live photography for bands in the Seattle area. In the 2003, by pure accident, I was the impromptu photographer at a friend's wedding when the other photographer had to leave early, and loved it! With all of my background in wedding planning as a coordinator, working at a gown botique, making cakes, and even having been a member of almost 30 wedding parties, the step into wedding photography was a natural progression and one I cherish.
I've enjoyed catpuring the stories behind weddings, live bands, as well as portrait/commercial photography for families, artists and small businesses. My style lies in fun blend of journlistic and traditional style photography. I love to capture the natural and unprompted moments that occur in life, but when it comes to posed photography I keep a lose and fun approach. Rather than posing every little detail, I work with my subjects, give them the "general" pose and keep them talking and laughing while I snap away. This brings a much more natural and relaxed feel to the image from everything from smiling to "rawk star" poses. If you have someone who hates to pose photographs, this is the way to get a comfortable and fantastic image!
I shoot entirely in digital high resolution RAW format. Why digital? I've found it gives me a great deal more flexibility and room for creativity both at the time of the actual shoot and at the time of editing. I initially shoot everything in color, which allows me to add effects in post production. This gives my clients the opportunity to pick from a larger selection of final images with otions of color, black and white, albumen (similar to sepia), hand toning, infrared and more!
I'm a proud member of Professional Photographer's of America (PPA), Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), and had the honor of one of my wedding albums being featured nationally at Collage.net in May 2007. I'm also a big believer in community, and make it a point to volunteer my time and services to organizations in the Pacific Northwest whenever possible. When Outside of these I enjoy soaking up endless moments and laughs with my family, friends, and of course, my ever-entertaining husband who I've been with for about 10 years.
All of these aspects of my life lead me to appreciate every moment and image I capture, and invest my heart and soul into it. I put the same pride into every project as if it where my own wedding, commercial product, or family photograph. I know these images are meant to last a lifetime for generations to view. The images you invest in today, will immortalize the story of your life...
