I was brought up in the North of England and the stark, uncompromising, industrial landscapes there have had a strong influence on my photography.
I trained in photography at Leeds in 1970 and worked as a photographer at Bradford University. In 1982 I moved to the South of England working for BP Research and I am now a photographer in the public sector.
My passion, however, is for Britain’s rich, industrial heritage and in particular the inland waterways. The canal network has seen many changes in fortune over the past 200 years. Much of the industry that lined their banks has gone and now the waterways face a new threat in the form of government cut backs. I am endeavouring to capture these rapidly disappearing landscapes and see my work as a pictorial archive.
I prefer to work mainly on film, but also occasionally use a digital format.
