From his home in Best, a small city close to Eindhoven located in the southern part of Holland, Patrick Landstra runs his photography business. Attending a 3 year course on professional photography turned him into a versatile photographer. Initially trained in the analogue techniques he is now using his knowledge for digital photography to create his images. The chemistry of the traditional darkroom has been replaced by microprocessors and Photoshop. Photoshop is used to post-process pictures from events. It is also used to create artistic and/or black & white images or photo illustrations.
He has developed a keen eye for detail which can be seen in his fine-art, travel and nature photography. Using a small mobile studio he is able to create well-illuminate interior shots. It can also be used create a small studio on location for portrait or product photography. Personal skills like being a good communicator, flexible, a great drive and being a technically skilled, creative photographer enables him to translate the ideas and wishes of the customer from words into images which are highly appreciated and valued.
The photography education not only trained him to work in a professional studio and perform table top photography. It also developed his talent to work with the combination of theatre/show lighting and a small flashlight on his camera. This pays off during the fitness events and dance performances he covers. The pictures not only show nice colours but also the motion and joy of the presenters/attendants/dancers during their workouts or performance.
He combined pleasure and business during many journeys all over the world and built a considerable stock with pictures from for instance: United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Africa, the Middle East, Japan. The Netherlands, being his home country, is of course also part of his stock pictures.
Apart from being behind a camera he also likes to transfer his knowledge about and passion for photography to other people. With his technical background and 15 year experience in adult education he developed basic and advanced courses in photography and Photoshop. The courses are conducted at photo clubs of companies or small municipality centres. The assignments used during the course enable the students to put the theory into practice and enhance their creative skills. The resulting images are usually subject for long, lively and joyful discussions.
To stimulate creativity he decided to start with a project called: Project 2007 on the 1st of January 2007. The project entails to take at least one picture each day during the year 2007. Only one picture will be selected and published on the website of Photography Patrick Landstra.
Patrick Landstra works with equipment and software supplied by Canon (digital camera, lenses from the L-series and wide format printer W7200), Dell, LaCie, Adobe (Photoshop CS3), Bowens (studio flashlights), Manfrotto and LowePro.
