South African digital artist Joe Goosen started out early, for as a child he scribbled (defaced?) on everything within reach. Luckily for Joe, his schoolteachers thought it wise to help channel this activity into something more creative by providing drawing materials and a few tips, pointers and how-to’s. After graduation he attended a 2-year program of life drawing, portraiture and oil painting. Human faces and bodies fascinated Mr. Goosen from an early age, and even now he spends countless hours working on his human form technique.
As a professional artist and painter, Joe has had solo and group exhibitions in South Africa, and has sold artworks to a range on clients. His style has been called “a blend of African surrealism with a mix of traditional and contemporary themes,” often highlighting African people, culture, nature and wildlife, with a strong focus on symbolic and archetypal value in traditional African society.
South Africa based Digital Artist Joe Goosen creates stunning artworks of deep complexity and inspiring spirituality. Joe has a wide range of commission and assignment experience, including fabric design for local and German fashion markets, illustrations for a Limited Edition book on the life and times of a extraordinary man,who lived in in Namibia (Pen and Ink, then hand colored), plus photo-illustration and photo manipulation projects for advertising and corporate clientele.
Artist Statement:
“My current work is mostly synthetic, although I do make use of scans and digital photos. I do not specifically go for photo-realism (unless that is required) but for an image that transcends its content and style, but still conveys what the client has in mind.
What I really like about digital art is the fact that one can draw (pun intended!) from such a large variety of sources, creating effects and content by combining source material, creative input and tools from different software packages. Then I integrate it seamlessly into a single image.”
