The quest for some personal religious framework permeates the themes and attitudes of my sculpture. Present also are recurring psychological determinants. The sculptures draw on a thematic pool that has fed many artists from the past: love, death, metamorphosis, redemption, violence and so on. The sculptures are fashioned in clay and plaster and cast into bronze. They show little interest in contemporary sculptural notions of "process and materials", employing these elements only in so far as craft is present and necessary to build a good piece of sculpture. Visual and mythological associations are sought from the art of the past, including the Hellenistic, Greek, Roman, Mesopotamian, Aztec, Coptic, Indian, 19th century French and many others.
