Born in Victoria 1975, Melinda McCarthy has been an exhibiting artist for the last ten years. Originally studying screen-printing, art and design, Melinda spent her early career working with community arts organisation RedPlanet. Here she did commission work and ran print workshops for various community groups and the public.
As her work became more narrative and illustrative, she turned to a mixture of acrylics and oils as a way of breathing life and depth into her images.
Very much drawn to the stories of ancient mythology, folklore and mysticism her work delves into the surreal, magical and sometimes dark world of fantasy and legend.
Her work is suitable for a range of purposes such as, book illustrations, CD covers, editorial, magazine covers, promotional posters, prints, greeting cards and book jackets. Especially those dealing with genres in fantasy, magic, mythology, fairy tales and folklore, for children, teens and adults alike.
As an exhibiting artist, her fine art is held in various private collections internationally and may be commissioned as single pieces or used to produce fine art prints. Perfect for hotels, restaurants, museums and art galleries.
Whilst most of her works use oils, acrylics, or a mixture of both, Melinda also has strong illustrative skills using grey lead, colour and watercolour pencils as well as ink.
